All of our products are used and antiquarian books.
The condition of the books varies from item to item and is described in detail on the product detail page.
Please refer to this page for an explanation of each technical term when considering your purchase.

Rare books (whole)

lining

Reinforcing by laminating paper on the entire reverse side of the paper. When all of the paper is reinforced, it is called total backing.

Bug Repair

Repaired areas damaged by insect bites.

Blackening the face

Some parts are difficult to read due to ink adhering to the surface.

Crude

Overall worn and damaged condition.

Fatigue

The paper is worn out after years of use.

Slovenly

The book is bloated or pages are wavy due to moisture or humidity.

A few pages

A book with multiple copies, of which only one copy remains.

Collection in one volume

A book bound together from several books.

Rare books (printed books)

Original equipment

The original cover and original title should be retained.

Substitute cover

The replacement of the original cover with a new one.

Slip of paper bearing a book’s title (pasted inside the book)

The name of the book is written in ink, not the original title slip.

Missing volume

Those that are not completely aligned and are missing a volume or number of volumes.

Entering a book

Partially supplemented by other editions.

Missing pages

Also called a missing page. A page that is missing a part of the page.

Copying

To fill in missing parts of an edition by copying.

Western-style books and medium-sized documents

Book bound in regular edition

Top binding. Hardcover.

Book bound in one volume

Bound in a fine, flat binding. Paperback.

Book bound in linear form

This is the same binding method as “Japanese-style binding” or “pouch binding”.

Facsimile edition

A book in which the original (bottom copy) is covered by photo-printing. Also written “kei-in-bon.

Miniature book

A shadow-printed book printed at a smaller scale than the original.

Books with reading aids (such as kana or punctuation marks)

A book from a laboratory or library collection that has been stamped with an expulsion seal and put back into circulation.

Japanese quince (Chaenomeles speciosa)

Sunburned or faded.

Damage

A defect that is mainly localized.

Typographical indication

A5 Sei refers to an A5-size fine-bound book, and B6 Hira refers to a B6-size flat-bound book.
